Yesterday was my 'Team Building' afternoon at work. Usually this conjers up thoughts of corporate idiots in combats pretending they are commandos on an assault course. This however, is the 21st Century, and 21st Century post Secret Life of Us teams go Lawn Bowling! There are 16 people in my team, and we all trudged up Miller Street on a cloudy and slightly chilly day up to North Sydney "Bowlo" for Rock 'n Bowl! An idea created by an ex Rugby Wallaby and self-title "Minister of Fun". The Bowling Club is in a great location, with a beautiful view over Sydney Harbour. It was a shame that the sun wasn't out and it was overcast but the view was still good.
Basically, they divide you into teams (we had 4 teams of 4) and then you play round-robin style against each other. Then there are semi-finals, and the winner of these play for the Winner's Trophy and the losers of the semi-finals playoff for "The Horse's Arse" cup. Our team played really well until the semi-final where we came unstuck. Ronald and Simon in my team but put in excellent performances and seem to be lawn bowl sharks from way back! Unfortunately, my team was the winner of said horse's arse, but still a trohpy is still a trophy!
