The new Kings X Hotel

We went to the opening of the newly renovated Kings X Hotel this evening. It's had a major overhaul but the downstairs is pretty disappointing really, so much open space it just feels empty with no atmosphere. The rest of the levels are ok, the roof top terrace probably takes the honours (maybe that was because it was the busiest floor?).

Overall though, it's got a real 'try hard' feel about it and it comes off as a really disjointed design. It's like someone with no design skills has had a bash themselves or the architect and interior designer didn't talk at all. From the dodgy "Saturday Night Fever" stairs that light up in technocolour as you walk on them down to the toilets, the laser show in the lift (I'm not kidding) to the Catholic confession box on level 4 it's just all a bit too wanky for me. And don't get me started on the taps/soap dispensers - they have to be seen to be believed!

Still, we had a great night all round and even ended up at 'The World' bar (haven't been there since 2002!) for a rock night!
