Day Seven - Sonoma

Today we met up with Kathryn & Travis again for a day trip to Sonoma County. We met them in Petaluma at a Starbucks (I had a hot chocolate!) before hopping in one car to go to Healdsburg. It is such a cute little town, very affluent with lots of little local shops, boutiques, nice restaurants and vineyard tasting rooms around a grassed town square. We took a walk around town and enjoyed some lunch at a diner - Jo and I shared a breakfast burrito - scrambled eggs, bacon, black beans and cheese in a soft flour tortilla served with sour cream, guacamole, salsa and potatoes!! Yum!!!!

We then took a drive down Dry Creek Road which is lined with Vineyards all the way to the beautiful Lake Sonoma. Although we didn't have a boat, we enjoyed it here with it's magical views, sparking water and bluest of blue skies. I could just imagine spending the whole weekend here enjoying water skiing and jet skiing but unfortunately that wasn't possible today.

Lake Sonoma - Perfect Day

Posing for the camera

This part of Northern California is just spectacular and it was really refreshing to get out of the city for even a day.
On the way back, we stopped in at a vineyard to do a spot of wine tasting. Here in America you have to pay for the tasting which seemed a bit foreign to me as in the Hunter Valley it's all free but it was enjoyable nonetheless and we bought a bottle of Sav Blanc to enjoy in Las Vegas :)

The magnificent Golden Gate Bridge (without fog)

We stopped in at Healdsburg again on the way home as we were all craving ice cream. Jo and I got some soft serve frozen yoghurt (vanilla & chocolate). I chose mine with oreo's and mini peanut butter cups - heaven! Jo had her's with toasted almonds and coconut - also divine. Kathryn went for peanut butter gelato with....wait for it....chocolate peanut butter gelato! I think she likes peanut butter!!!

On the way back into San Francisco we couldn't help but stop off to take some shots of the Golden Gate Bridge now that the fog had lifted. We managed to get a park and some cool shots of the bridge before driving to the beautiful Sausilito for a wander and eventually dinner.

More Bridge Shots

Sausalito is a really nice place and we walked around whilst trying to find something to eat. After walking past a pizza place we all agreed on Italian so we set Kathryn to work with her iPhone to find us something. She found a Pizza place just up the road so we all hopped in the car and made our way there. We enjoyed some really yummy fresh bread and butter and a couple of greats pizzas. Mmmm food. We defintely had some good food today!

We said goodbye to Travis and farewell to Kathryn (we'll see her next week in New York) and thanks for a fantastic day together before making our way home for some much needed rest. We start to make our way to Vegas tomorrow but not before we spend a few days in Yosemite National Park. Will be nice to spend some more time out of the city.....
