After a quick shower, Jo doing her hair (unfortunately the early misty air is like kryptonite to ghd straightened hair) and having some breakfast and a homemade muffin from our motel at Pismo Beach we set off for seeing some of the most spectacular coastline there is. We drive though some little towns like Morro Bay and Cambria and we stop off every so often to take some pictures or go for a little walk and see what's around us.
We stop off to walk along a boardwalk and take in the view that just doesn't seem to stop and just gets better and better. As we walk along, camera in hand, these little squirrels come out from nowhere and surround us! They were very friendly and as soon as they arrived they were gone which meant Jo engaged her usual 'animal call'. This involves making a sound like Skippy the Kangaroo followed by a high pitch "Hello!". So, were walking along, Jo making "Tchk Tchk Tchk...hello!" and we take about 50 pics of squirrels and I capture this one as evidence.
We continue the animal theme by stopping further up the road at a viewing point for Elephant Seals. There were hundreds of them all snoozing along the beach and the water was so blue and the sky so bright, it made for a great picture.
We stop off for lunch at a little cafe at Lucia which had the most amazing view of the Big Sur area. I enjoyed a Cajun Chicken sandwich and Jo had a grilled fish sandwich - both so fresh and tasty, we've done well with out food choices so far (fingers crossed). The sizes were normal too, not the size of a large cat or something that I always think about when I imagine American food portions.
The above picture is my favourite of the day. The azure blue water, the crashing waves, the mist and clouds over the hills. Totally perfect scenery captured in this shot, hopefully you can imagine the warm sun on your face and the breeze all around.
Not much after this, the view gets less amazing and we now drive on without stopping to San Francisco. Our GPS gave us a few bum steers so we do a few laps of San Fransisco streets before finding our hotel and our awesome room! We're now settled in for the night, ready for the exploring and shopping to begin tomorrow!

Those pics bring back memories of my little journey up from LA to San Fran. Big Sur is a great road - and your Jetta was probably a lot more fun to hustle along than my lardy estate! Didn't see any seals on my journey, but did stop in Monteray, and checked out the aquarium which was excellent.
Glad you got the GPS too, a life saver! Although it did lead me around the houses in San Fran too!
Sounds like you're having a great time and the weather is being kind - it's nice here too - 27 degrees today!
Keep writing the blog! :)
